Chicago lost 121 games, surpassing the losses incurred by the 1962 New York Mets. With the White Sox finishing at 41-121 their winning percentage of .253 was three-tenths of a point higher than the 1962 Mets, but their season still went into the record books as one of the worst in memory. Their 2025 campaign is off to an even worse beginning. Chicago lost their ninth game of the season on Wednesday night to drop to 2-9 on the young campaign, a winning percentage of just .182, below their finish a season ago. How they lost on Wednesday night is emblematic of where their luck is right now as a franchise. Trailing 3-1 in the top of the ninth inning to the Cleveland Guardians, Chicago loaded the bases on a single from Jacob Amaya, a single from outfielder Mike Tauchman, and a walk to Andrew Vaughn. Cleanup hitter Miguel Vargas came to the plate with the bases full and two outs, and promptly laced a single to left through the hole on the first pitch he saw from Guardians reliever Emmanuel Clase, bringing Amaya home as Tauchman rounded third with the potential go-ahead run. The throw home from left fielder Steven Kwan arrived well ahead of the limping Tauchman, who was visibly frustrated after being tagged out to end the game. “It’s unfortunate, obviously. Hope Mike is all right, and the outcome of the game speaks for itself,” White Sox manager Will Venable said. “We’re still gathering information on him and see what we got.” Just brutal for the White Sox, who are off to another brutal start.
