The drivers’ parade at the F1 Miami Grand Prix looks a little different, thanks to LEGO
At the drivers’ parade here at the Miami Grand Prix, the teams are winding around the track in LEGO F1 cars MIAMI, Florida — Every time you make a trip to a Formula 1 race, you see something new. This year’s installment of the Miami Grand Prix is no different. For the drivers’ parade this year, instead of riding on the back of flatbed trucks, the 20 drivers worked their way around the Miami International Autodrome in fully drivable and team-branded LEGO “big build cars” that replaced the flatbed parade trucks you usually see before a race. According to a press release provided by F1: Each car has been created by a skilled team of 26 designers, engineers and LEGO builders, over 22,000 hours, in the LEGO Group’s Kladno factory, located in the Czech Republic. At a near 1:1 in scale with Formula 1 cars, each big build is made of nearly 400,000 LEGO bricks, weighing 1,000kg and capable of reaching speeds of 20 km/h, all while capturing the intricate and unique details of a Formula 1 car, including everything from sponsor logos to authentic Pirelli tires. As outlined in the release, the “big build cars” are based on the LEGO F1 Speed Champions series, unveiled last year.
