From Friday the 13th and Tremors to Stir of Echos and Hollow Man to MaXXXine and The Toxic Avenger, Kevin Bacon can’t seem to escape the horror genre — and he’s just fine with that.

While promoting his new action-horror-thriller series “The Bondsman,” I asked Bacon about the attraction of horror.

I think it’s life or death. I think that it’s a way to experience something and really feel,” the actor notes.

“When I started first experiencing horror, every time I would do it, it would be in the company of a bunch of people in a dark room in a movie theater. And when you share that experience of everybody going, “Ah!” They jump at something, and then right afterwards they laugh at the fact that they all collectively jumped at that thing.

It’s just a great feeling. And I think people love to confront their fears and have someone lead them down that road.”

He continues, “I’ve talked to a lot of people that say, “I just don’t do horror.” And I get it. It may not be your thing, but I always think to myself, “Have you really seen many horror movies, or did you see one and then you just went, ‘No, I don’t do that. I’m only watching rom-coms?’

“I find that a horror movie or a really funny comedy are the two genres that can really bind an audience as one organism.”

Describing “The Bondsman,” Bacon says, “It’s crazy. It’s funny. It’s bloody disgusting!

Bacon stars as Hub Halloran, a murdered bounty hunter, who’s back from the dead after being resurrected by the Devil to trap and send back demons that have escaped from the prison of Hell. By chasing down those demons, with the help and hindrance of his estranged family, Hub learns how his own sins got his soul condemned — which pushes him to seek a second chance at life, love, and country music.

Jennifer Nettles (“The Righteous Gemstones”), Damon Herriman (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Beth Grant (Donnie Darko), Maxwell Jenkins (“Lost in Space”), and Jolene Purdy (“Under the Dome”) co-star.

Stay tuned for more coverage of “The Bondsman,” premiering April 3 on Prime video.
