While the term "pick me" germinated from a sappy speech from an early season of Grey's Anatomy, like twenty years ago, the "pick me" mentality has been deeply embedded into the fibers of society since the beginning of time. Contrary to it being littered throughout Internet comment sections as an insult, a "pick me" isn't a woman who has guy friends, enjoys sex, or flaunts her body. A woman who is a "pick me" is someone who waters herself down to make men more comfortable, who acts as a reflection to men instead of a presence, who seeks external validation from men, and it's often at the expense of herself and often other women.
