NME’s latest star of The Cover, Tanner Adell, has put together an exclusive playlist to accompany the story’s launch – check it out below.
The California-raised glam-country singer is on this week’s (April 7) edition of The Cover, an embodiment of NME’s ongoing dedication to supporting emerging talent across the globe on a weekly basis. Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover – you can read Tanner Adell’s profile here, written by Nick Levine and featuring photography by Rachel Billings.
To accompany the story, Adell has compiled an exclusive playlist titled ‘Going Blonde (While Trying to Avoid a Disco Attack)’. The 12 songs range from Adell’s latest single ‘Going Blonde’ and viral hit ‘Buckle Bunny’, to disco hits from the likes of Donna Summer, Bee Gees and Diana Ross. Listen to the full playlist on Spotify below and on Apple Music.
For The Cover, Adell spoke in depth about her new single, ‘Going Blonde’, a deeply personal glimpse into her adoption story. “Writing this song was a big part of my healing process,” she said, “I’m hoping that by sharing my story, I can help others.”
The singer also discussed breaking the rules of traditional country music, by blending in different musical influences to create her own sound. “Whenever you’re trying to do something different, there’s always going to be people telling you it won’t work,” Adell told NME. “Paving my own path, especially sound-wise in my music, makes it harder, but I think it’s going to pay off in the long run.”
