talkSPORT betting tips – Best racing bets and expert advice for York’s Dante Festival Day One
Day One of York’s Dante Festival takes place on Wednesday and there’s an excellent seven-race card to look forward to. The Group 2 Duke Of York Clipper Stakes and the well-established Oaks trial, the Musidora Stakes, are the big races of the day. Our expert has picked out three strong fancies to follow across the card including one for the all-conquering Aidan O’Brien in the Musidora. talkSPORT BET welcome offer – Bet £10 Get £30 in free bets York racing tips 14:10 York – Marhaba The Champ @ 10/1 15:13 York – Inisherin @ 9/4 15:45 York – Whirl @ 85/40 14:10 York – Marhaba The Champ The competitive and valuable Jorvik Handicap is a good way to get the meeting underway and two-time course winner Marhaba The Champ could well be the one to side with. He appeared to need the run on seasonal debut and should step forward significantly from that. Last season was a bit of a disappointment but he was far from disgraced when fourth at Ayr in September. Kevin Ryan’s six-year-old is on a very nice mark when considering his best form and a return to winning ways could be on the cards. Ryan Moore was on board when he won a big pot in a course and distance handicap in August 2023 and that length-and-a-half success came off a mark of 91. Now on a mark of 86, he should be capable of running a big race on that evidence. 15:13 York – Inisherin Another one for Kevin Ryan, Inisherin began his three-year-old campaign with a respectable sixth-placed finish in the 2000 Guineas over a mile at Newmarket. He was too keen over that trip and his finishing effort suffered as a consequence. A drop in trip beckoned and he ran out an impressive winner of the Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock. Top juvenile Vandeek could only manage third that day, which provides some serious substance to that form. Ryan’s colt was equally as impressive in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot next time, though his form dropped off with a couple of below-par efforts in the July Cup and Haydock’s Sprint Cup. Sprinters tend to get better with age so improvement is anticipated this season and he deserves another chance, especially with the bang in-form Ryan Moore on board. 15:45 York – Whirl Aidan O’Brien has been absolutely mopping up in Derby and Oaks trials, winning seven of them last week alone. He sends Whirl over for the Musidora and we should see a much improved performance from the filly. She took a couple of runs to get the hang of things last term but managed to get off the mark in a decent maiden at Doncaster’s St Leger meeting. Ryan Moore rode her up with the pace and she was firmly in control at the line, winning cosily in the end. The daughter of Wootton Bassett then followed up in a Group 3 at the Curragh, where stablemate and Lingfield Oaks winner Giselle finished fourth. Holding off the challengers in game fashion, middle-distances should be to her liking this season. O’Brien’s filly looked desperately in need of the run when sixth over a mile on seasonal debut and the extra two-and-a-half furlongs will come in handy. talkSPORT BET welcome offer – Bet £10 Get £30 in free bets Visit talkSPORT BET for all the latest horse racing betting odds *all odds correct at time of writing and subject to change 18+ New customers only.
