Michael Misa is doing everything he can to make a strong case to be the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NHL Draft.

The Saginaw Spirit star scored two more goals on Monday as his team crushed the visiting Sudbury Wolves 8-3 in OHL action.

Misa, who turned 18 on Sunday, now has 52 goals in 51 games.

The native of Oakville, Ont. could become just the fourth draft-eligible player in the past 40 years to score at a goal-a-game pace in an OHL season.

You might have heard of the other players: Eric Lindros in 1990-91 (71 goals in 57 games with the Oshawa Generals), Patrick Kane in 2006-07 (62 goals in 58 games with the London Knights), and John Tavares in 2008-09 (58 goals in 56 games with Oshawa).

Misa is projected to be in a battle with Erie Otters defenceman Matthew Schaefer, Brampton Steelheads forward Porter Martone and Boston College forward James Hagens for the honour of being the first-overall pick.

Misa was the only one of those players not to play in the world junior championship this past holiday season in Ottawa.

It was a controversial omission. Canada struggled to score throughout the tournament and lost to Czechia in the quarterfinals.
