Late last year, Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 8 Elite, which quickly became one of the most powerful chipsets in the smartphone industry thanks to its new Oryon custom cores. At this point, many Android flagship smartphones use this chipset and are much faster than their predecessors. No wonder the chipset is expensive, and so are the smartphones that come with it.

This is why Qualcomm is gearing up to launch a new, trimmed-down version of that chipset. The company will reportedly call it the Snapdragon 8s Elite. That said, multiple reports, including a new leak, suggest that the SoC won’t come with custom Oryon cores.

The Snapdragon 8s Elite will miss Oryon Cores, tipster claims

On Saturday, an Indian tipster, Debayon Roy, posted on X, claiming that the Snapdragon 8s Elite will miss Oryon cores, fueling the rumor again. The tipster notes the chipset’s tech specs and also that it will be built on the 4nm process.

Per the post, the SoC will have a Cortex-X4 prime core that clocks at up to 3.21 GHz and three Cortex-A720 cores clocking at a speed of up to 3.01 GHz. There are two other cores that work up to 2.8 GHz. Lastly, it will have two extra Cortex-A520 cores running at up to 2.02 GHz.

Not to forget, everyone initially expected the Snapdragon 8s Elite SoC to be somewhere close to its flagship sibling. However, when benchmarks of the chipset surfaced back in January, they suggested otherwise. A Chinese tipster then claimed it only beats the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 by a small margin on Geekbench 6. The chipset reportedly scored 1,967 and 5,827 on single-core and multi-core tests.

The chipset will use a downgraded version of the GPU found in Qualcomm’s flagship SoC

The Adreno 825 GPU will be taking care of the graphics processing on the Snapdragon 8s Elite chipset. Said GPU is the trimmed-down version of the Adreno 830, used on the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Moreover, brands like iQOO and Redmi are gearing up to launch Snapdragon 8s Elite-powered smartphones as soon as next month.
