“Shōgun” Season 2 To Film In January

FX has announced that filming on the second season of its universally acclaimed historical drama series “Shōgun” is officially set to get underway in January next year in Vancouver.

First season stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis will return in the roles of Lord Yoshii Toranaga and John Blackthorne, respectively. Sanada will also be elevated to executive producer while Jarvis is a co-executive producer.

Whereas the first season was based on the legendary novel of the same name by James Clavell, the new ten-episode run will take place a decade later and “continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined”.

The first season, which won 18 Emmy Awards and was the most-watched program in the network’s history, was originally conceived as a limited series.

However, when FX shifted the show into the drama series category for the Emmys rather than limited series, it signalled another season was coming

Shortly after, Sanada had signed a deal to return for a second season and FX confirmed that the James Clavell estate and series creators Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks were working to develop two more seasons.

Kondo and Marks serve as executive producers alongside Michaela Clavell, Edward L. McDonnell and Michael De Luca.
