Shannon Sharpe defends Bill Belichick and girlfriend Jordon Hudson amid blowback from unusual email request

Shannon Sharpe has defended Bill Belichick after a request he made to North Carolina staff went viral. The legendary New England Patriots coach, 72, who sensationally took a job with the Tar Heels college football team ahead of the 2025 season, has asked for girlfriend Jordon Hudson to be copied on emails sent to him. Belichick has made an unusual request to UNC staff that relates to girlfriend HudsonGetty Matt Hartman, who covers higher education for The Assembly, shared an email apparently sent from Belichick’s account to Robbi Pickeral Evans, who handles strategic communications for the athletic department. “Robbi,” the email begins. “Thank you for the e-mail. I am including Jordon on this email so she can also keep up with our postings. Can you include her on anything you send to me? Thank you.” The email was then signed off: ‘BB.’ Although the copy of the specific email posted by Hartman focuses on ‘social media and web content,’ the reporter added that 24-year-old Hudson was copied on other emails, including whether to accept interview requests. The couple, who have previously drawn attention for their 48-year age gap, were ridiculed on social media soon after the emails were shared. “Next thing you know, she’ll be out there in spring practice running the Oklahoma drill,” one person joked. “There is no way,” another said. “This isn’t going to end well,” a third suggested. NFL legend Sharpe also discussed the situation with his Nightcap co-host Chad Johnson on Thursday night, but suggested he understands the request from the Tar Heels coach. Belichick and Hudson have been dating for a number of years “Bill Belichick is telling UNC staff to copy his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, in every message intended for him,” Sharpe began. “Here’s the thing… a lot of people have executive assistants, and you loop them in. “She’s not his assistant, there’s a difference between the two. I think Coach Belichick has an assistant, but I don’t think it’s her. He has a girlfriend, it’s this young lady, Jordon. Two different (people).” Sharpe argued that scheduling duties should be left to a professional assistant, but sympathised with Belichick’s decision to involve Hudson. He concluded: “I get it, I do. When you’re in love, we’ve all been there. We tell the girl everything, every move.” Co-host Johnson shared similar thoughts, and while he admitted that he personally wouldn’t ask for a significant other to be CC’d on every email, he said his ‘small team’ are always in the loop to help him stay on top of his schedule. Sharpe and Johnson discussed Belichick’s email request on their podcastYouTube: Nightcap “For me, the keys thing is within context. Anything work related, the small team I have, that individual is included,” Ocho said. “It’s to make sure I stay on top of stuff because sometimes I forget certain things. “My scheduling, what time my flight is, my boarding pass. Small stuff so I can stay on top of it and that individual can keep me ahead of schedule. “But everything? No, absolutely not. “I understand what you’re saying, but there’s a thin line between being in love and being stupid, and I never crossed that line – ever.” Belichick has been settling into his new job as the head coach of UNC in recent months, after he inked a five-year, $50million deal in January. It’s not only his internal communication requests that are turning heads either, as the six-time Super Bowl winner has also brought a longstanding Patriots tradition to campus.
