Summary: Samsung could ditch under-display camera tech after the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 could arrive with a display camera hole instead next year. Well, this is just a rumor for now, but there you go.

In a new turn of events, it seems like Samsung is considering ditching the under-display camera tech. As many of you know, Samsung has been using it for years, but only in one smartphone series… the Galaxy Z Fold series.

Samsung is considering ditching under-display camera tech

Samsung has been using it on the main display, so that it avoids a display camera hole. The Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is expected to arrive in either July or August, will include such a camera too. After that, however, things could change.

A tipster known as yeux1122, has shared a rumor regarding that on Naver. He claims that Samsung is considering moving in a different direction past the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

He claims that Samsung is finding it difficult to improve the technical characteristics of an under-display camera. That includes cost-effectiveness and some other aspects. Apple has, allegedly, also postponed its UDC camera plans.

So, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could be the first ‘Fold’ phone from the company, after a long time, not to include an under-display camera. The fact that the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which arrived last year, didn’t include it, is yet another pointer that it may actually happen.

The fact to the matter is, under-display cameras are not as good as regular ones. Samsung is able to offer a better regular selfie camera, but it needs to include a display camera hole on the foldable display, like basically every other company that makes foldables.

That should not exactly be a huge problem or a change for users, though. They still have to deal with a camera hole on the cover display. On top of that, the under-display camera Samsung uses is not exactly completely invisible.
