Timed with the film’s 50th anniversary, the 1975 musical cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” has scored a brand new 4K Ultra HD restoration, a job that took the Walt Disney Studios Restoration team over 10 months.
The restoration features a newly mixed Dolby Atmos audio track along with the fully restored original mono audio, and comes from a “meticulous digital scan and preservation process that ensures every frame of the film is presented with ‘unprecedented clarity and vibrancy’.”
The plan is for a theatrical re-release in theatres across the U.S. followed at a later date by a disc/streaming release. Tim Curry, Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon starred in the filmbased on playwright Richard O’Brien’s stage musical of the same name.
Meanwhile, Focus Features is re-releasing Ang Lee’s “Brokeback Mountain” nationwide in theaters to celebrate the 20th anniversary of that landmark film.
Tickets are now on sale for the theatrical event with special showings beginning on June 22nd and 25th.
The late Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, and Michelle Williams star in the sweeping Western epic about two cowboys who share a lifelong love affair in a world that will not accept it.
The film had extensive critical acclaim and made $178.1 million at the box-office off a $14 million budget. It also scored four Oscar nominations including Best Picture.
