“Revenge of the Sith” Re-Release Targets $17M?

Last May, Lucasfilm re-released “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” in cinemas to celebrate that film’s 25th anniversary.

It proved a big success, the title taking in an $8.5 million weekend gross domestically and landing at the second spot at the U.S. box-office for the first weekend of May.

It was also the second-best opening weekend haul for a re-release this decade – behind only “Avatar” in 2022 at $10 million, and just above “Titanic” in 2023 with $7 million.

Next Friday, Lucasfilm is set to re-release “Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith” in cinemas for its 20th anniversary, and so far the numbers are looking very strong.

EmpireCityBO compared the first hour or two of pre-sale tickets for the title compared to those of ‘Phantom Menace’, and indicated that ‘Sith’ is on the way to more than double the opening weekend of the ‘Phantom Menace’ re-release if the numbers hold steady.

Tickets are now on sale via Fandango with AMC, Alamo Drafthouse, B&B, Cinemark, Fandango, Galaxy, Harkins, Marcus, Megaplex and Regal all hosting screenings in multiple formats including the first 4DX screenings of the film.
