Reports: Star cornerback Jalen Ramsey, Dolphins mutually agree to explore trade

Jalen Ramsey’s time in Miami appears to be nearing an end.

The star cornerback and the Dolphins are mutually set to explore trade options, NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday.

Rapoport added that there is no set deadline on a deal, but with the NFL draft nine days away, a trade before April 24 could benefit all parties involved.

However, his hefty deal could complicate a trade this season. The 30-year-old is under contract until 2029, and Ramsey is guaranteed $24.2 million this season but has no guaranteed money after 2025, per OverTheCap. He has been paid $4 million already, so any team potentially acquiring Ramsey would be on the hook for the remaining $20.2 million.

With such a large cap figure for 2025, opposing teams may decide to wait until next season to take him on, or Miami may wait to lessen the dead-cap hit.

Since being selected fifth-overall by the Jaguars in the 2016 draft, Ramsey has been one of the premiere cornerbacks in the league. He’s a seven-time Pro Bowler, three-time first-team All-Pro and a Super Bowl champion.

But the Florida State product is coming off a down year by his standards, recording two interceptions while failing to make the Pro Bowl for the first time since 2019.

In his two seasons in South Beach, Ramsey recorded 82 tackles, 16 passes defended and five interceptions.
