Reports: Packers sign Canadian QB Taylor Elgersma out of Laurier

Taylor Elgersma is charting a unique path to the NFL.

The Canadian quarterback and Laurier product signed a contract with the Green Bay Packers, per multiple reports on Monday.

Elgersma becomes the fourth Canadian university QB to ink an NFL deal, and the first since Steve Samways caught on with the Cincinnati Bengals in 1987, per 3 Down Nation.

He led the Golden Hawks to the Vanier Cup last season, ultimately falling 22-17 against Laval.

The 23-year-old Elgersma went undrafted in April but earned the contract after joining the Packers for rookie mini camp earlier in May.

In his senior season at Laurier, the London, Ont., native passed for 4,011 yards, 34 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He added 223 yards and six touchdowns rushing.

The Packers appear set at quarterback with Jordan Love and Malik Willis, leaving Elgersma to contend for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart.
