Reports: Longtime Rams receiver Cooper Kupp signing with Seahawks

Cooper Kupp is staying in the NFC West.

The longtime Los Angeles Rams wide receiver will sign with the Seattle Seahawks, NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero and others reported on Friday.

Kupp’s contract with the Seahawks will be worth $45 million over three years, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The move to Seattle represents a homecoming for Kupp, who’s from Yakima, Wash., and played collegiately at Eastern Washington.

Kupp, 31, was cut by the Rams on Wednesday after the team was unable to find a trade partner.

It marked the end of a successful eight-year run in Los Angeles for the receiver, who was named MVP of Super Bowl 56 as the Rams won the championship.

Kupp also took home Offensive Player of the Year honours in 2021 when he led the league with 145 catches, 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns.

But his production has tailed off amid injuries over the past three seasons. In 12 games last year, Kupp caught 67 passes for 710 yards and six scores.

Kupp’s role was also diminished as Puka Nacua has emerged as an elite NFL receiver in the past two seasons. The 2023 fifth-round pick is averaging a whopping 88.4 yards per game, one of the highest averages in league history, and has credited Kupp’s tutelage and leadership for his success.

Los Angeles has also added Davante Adams so far this off-season, signing the three-time All-Pro to a two-year deal that could be worth up to $46 million.

And so now, Kupp will head to division-rival Seattle, where he’s set to catch passes from new Seahawks QB Sam Darnold.

It’s the latest move in a Seahawks off-season overhaul which has also seen the team trade QB Geno Smith and WR DK Metcalf for draft picks while releasing stalwart receiver Tyler Lockett.

Darnold, the ex-Viking, signed a three-year contract that could be worth up to $100.5 million.

Kupp joins Pro Bowler Jaxon Smith-Njigba in an otherwise thin Seahawks receiver room.
