Reports: Athletics call up 2024 first-rounder Nick Kurtz

A fresh face is coming to Sacramento.

The Athletics are set to call up top prospect Nick Kurtz from triple-A, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reported on Monday.

Kurtz, a slugging first baseman, was the No. 4 pick in the 2024 draft and will reach MLB having played just 32 minor-leagues games.

But even though his stint in the minors was short, it was impactful.

The No. 35 prospect in the league, per MLB Pipeline, leads the minors with seven home runs in 20 games this season while slashing .321/.385/.655 on the season. His career OPS in the minors is a sparkling 1.121.

Last season, he split 12 games between single-A Stockton and double-A Midland before a hamstring injury ended his season early.

Kurtz, 22, was drafted out of Wake Forest University.

His MLB debut could come as soon as Tuesday when the Athletics host the Texas Rangers in the first of a three-game series.

The Athletics currently sit last in the AL West with a 10-12 record.
