Fresh off a World Series title and gunning for another, the Los Angeles Dodgers are keeping their manager around for the long haul.
Manager Dave Roberts has reportedly agreed to a record-breaking four-year extension with the Dodgers, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported on Monday.
According to Heyman, the money comes in at slightly over $8 million per year, which surpasses Cubs manager Craig Counsell’s five-year, $60-million ($8 million flat AAV) contract signed in 2023.
The deal will kick in ahead of the 2026 season.
Roberts, 52, has enjoyed a considerable amount of success since joining the organization in 2016, taking the team to four World Series and winning two in 2020 and 2024. The team hasn’t missed the playoffs once over his nine-year tenure and has won at least 91 games in all but the 2020 shortened season.
Overall, Roberts has an 851-506 record running the Dodgers. His .627 winning percentage in Los Angeles would give him the fifth-highest winning percentage among MLB managers of all time. However, it is the highest mark in league history among those to have managed at least 1,000 games.
The Dodgers begin their season on March 18 in Japan as they take on the Chicago Cubs in the Tokyo Series.
