Farhan Zaidi appears set to stay in the NL West.
According to multiple reports Monday, the former president of baseball operations of the San Francisco Giants is returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he will serve as a special assistant.
The Sudbury, Ont. native was the Dodgers’ general manager from 2014-2018 before taking a promotion in San Francisco.
Zaidi was fired by the Giants and replaced by Buster Posey earlier this off-season after the club missed the playoffs for a third consecutive season.
Now back in L.A., the 48-year-old will also assist Dodgers controlling owner Mark Walter with his other sports interests, according to The Athletic‘s Fabian Ardaya. Walter is also involved with the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers, the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, Chelsea Football Club and the PWHL.
In Zaidi’s six seasons with San Francisco, the Giants made the post-season just once — claiming the NL West title with a 107-win year in 2021. Zaidi won MLB’s Executive of the Year Award for the team’s success.
During his first go-round with the Dodgers, Zaidi helped Los Angeles win the NL West in all four seasons at the helm. However, reaching MLB’s mountaintop proved difficult, as the team made back-to-back World Series in 2017 and 2018, losing to the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox, respectively.
