Mac Jones has found a new home.
The former first-round pick has reportedly agreed to a two-year, $7 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers, with $5 million guaranteed, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Wednesday.
Jones, 26, was selected with the 15th overall pick by the New England Patriots in the 2021 Draft. He ended up spending three seasons with the Pats, starting in all 42 of his appearances while quarterbacking the team to an 18-24 record in that span.
As a rookie, Jones led New England to a 10-7 record while making both the Pro Bowl and All-Pro team and finishing second in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting. He racked up 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
He wasn’t able to keep up that form, however, and was eventually traded by the Patriots to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024 as they opted to usher in the Drake Maye era, the third overall pick in last year’s draft.
The Alabama Tar Heels product suited up in 10 games for the Jags in 2024, going 2-5 as a starter. He threw for 1672 yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions as he completed 65.3 per cent of his passes.
Through 52 career games, Jones holds totals of 10,590 yards, 54 touchdowns and 44 interceptions.
He’ll now slot in as Brock Purdy’s backup with the 49ers.
