Pearl Jam Revisit Vintage Songs For ‘The Last Of Us’

Pearl Jam have extended their association with The Last of Us video game and HBO series by releasing a four-song EP of their songs that have been used in both. In tandem with game developer Naughty Dog, the band rounded up the studio versions of “Future Days” and “All or None,” a 2024 take on “Future Days” taped at Eddie Vedder’s Ohana festival and a “redux” spin on “Present Tense,” all currently available digitally.

A 12-inch vinyl EP version of the project is available for preorder exclusively for members of Pearl Jam’s Ten Club fan organization, although no ship date has been announced.

More from Spin:

“Future Days” appears multiple times in The Last of Us lore involving the post-apocalyptic travails of main characters Joel and Ellie, and Vedder performed it live at the 2020 edition of The Game Awards. In tandem with the EP, Pearl Jam has also released a belated official video for the song, which first appeared on the 2013 album Lightning Bolt. See the clip, with illustrations by Paul Ribera, below.

As for “Present Tense (Redux),” it appears to blend elements of the original studio recording from 1996’s No Code with a much more recent live version of the song and contemporary overdubs. “Present Tense” has also become a sync favorite in recent years, having appeared in a climactic scene in HBO’s 2020 Chicago Bulls/Michael Jordan documentary The Last Dance.

Pearl Jam is winding down a spring North American tour that visits Raleigh, N.C., tomorrow (May 13).
