Panthers’ Puljujarvi suspended two games for illegal check to head

Florida Panthers forward Jesse Puljujarvi is feeling the repercussions for his high hit.

The Finnish winger was suspended for two games for an illegal check to the head of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s Mitchell Chaffee, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced on Thursday.

The decision means Puljujarvi won’t be eligible to play in the first two games of the Panthers’ playoff series against Tampa.

Puljujarvi knocked Chaffee to the ice with a shoulder to the head during a third-period collision on Tuesday, leading to a match penalty.

Chaffee did not return to the game and is questionable to suit up for Tampa Bay’s regular-season finale on Thursday.

Puljujarvi was skating in his fifth game with the Panthers since joining the organization on an American Hockey League PTO in February. He suited up for 26 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier in the season before having his contract terminated.
