“Pacific Rim” TV Series Lands At Amazon

Legendary Entertainment’s planned “Pacific Rim” origin series has landed at Amazon MGM Studios with the pair working together to develop the show for Amazon Prime Video reports Variety.

Eric Heisserer (“Arrival,” “Shadow and Bone”) will write and executive produce the series via his Chronology production company. The trade also says there is still the potential for new films in the franchise as well.

The two “Pacific Rim” films to date deal with an inter-dimensional rift opening at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, allowing massive monsters to enter our world and begin attacking humanity.

In response, humans begin constructing giant fighting robots called Jaegers to take the battle to them. Guillermo del Toro helmed the first film which starred Charlioe Hunnam and Idris Elba. Opening in 2013, it grossed over $400 million at the global box office.

A John Boyega-led and Steven S. DeKnight-directed sequel in 2018 titled “Pacific Rim Uprising” grossed $291 million worldwide and scored very mixed reviews. The two-season Netflix anime series “Pacific Rim: The Black” was also produced.

Legendary Television has produced several series of late including the well-recieved “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” for Apple TV+, animated “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft” for Netflix, and “Dune: Prophecy” for HBO.
