After getting announced last year, production on public domain horror movie Oswald: Down the Rabbit Hole has been delayed indefinitely.
Writer-Director Lilton Stewart III is using the delay to focus on tightening the script with script rewrites to enhance the horror-adventure film. Stewart is committed to delivering a more polished and satisfying story.
“I recently got inspired by an idea that will definitely make the story tighter and flesh out some of the unanswered questions I was leaving for the sequel,” says Stewart. “Audiences will still have questions leading into the next chapter of the story, but will feel more satisfied at the conclusion of the first film.”
Oswald: Down the Rabbit Hole is “depicting a sinister take on an iconic cartoon classic that encompasses the pure horror genre.” That cartoon classic is Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, a Walt Disney character first introduced in 1927 that was eventually replaced by Mickey Mouse.
The film follows the main character, Art, and friends embarking on what starts as an innocent journey to track down his family lineage, quickly turns into a bloodcurdling nightmare when they find his Great-Grandpa Oswald’s abandoned home. The group is transported to a place lost in time, shrouded by dark Hollywood devilry. When Art’s Great-Grandpa’s come-to-life cartoon Rabbit, a dark entity, decides their lives belong to it, the group is petrified. Art and his friends must work together to escape the haunting prison by the skin of their teeth, before the Rabbit gets to them first.
The delay news won’t affect casting, with additional talent expected to be announced in the coming months.
The film stars Topher Hall, Yasha Rayzberg, Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), and Nora Freetly, with production led by Lucinda Bruce and Lilton Stewart III.
