Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday,” “Beetlejuice 2”) and Taylor Russell (“Bones and All,” “Lost in Space”) are reportedly being sought for a reboot of the 1992 psychological thriller “Single White Female” at Sony’s 3000 Pictures label.

The Insneider broke the news, but there’s no further details as to how concrete the scoop might be.

Don Roos penned and Barbet Schroeder directed the original cult classic based on John Lutz’s novel “SWF Seeks Same”. Bridget Fonda starred as Allison Jones, a New York software designer who places an ad for a female roommate and accepts a young woman named Hedra ‘Hedy’ Carlson (Jennifer Jason Leigh).

As time passes, Allison begins to notice Hedy displaying increasing disturbing and murderous behavior as Hedy slowly seems to be adopting Allison’s identity.

The film scored mixed reviews at the time, but was a box-office success – taking in $84.1 million from a $16 million budget and is these days best remembered for one colorful kill involving a stiletto heel.

NBC handed out a script commitment for a reboot of the property as a series. That version inverted the story and followed a con woman targeting a rich colleague seeking a roommate, only to realise her mark isn’t as innocuous as she first seems.
