‘Oh my goodness’ – Golfer misses two tap-ins as Masters commentators left stunned

In the end he left it as a viral sensation for all the wrong reasons after a remarkable four putt from 12 feet tumbled him well beyond the cut and into an early exit. Cam Young had a moment to forget at Augusta on Friday The world no.59 has bags of pedigree having finished second at the 2022 Open and even more noteworthy recorded a pair of top 10 finishes at the Masters in each of the last two years. A lively outsider given his course form, Young had fired a level par opening round of 72 and would have had high hopes of moving up rather than down the Masters leaderboard on Friday at Augusta. Teeing it up at the par three 16th he was three-over for his round and right on the projected cut line after just one birdie to go with two bogeys and a double bogey five on the 12th. Having pulled his tee-shot wide right, his second found the edge of the green, tight to the fringe to leave a tricky 12-footer to save his par. Young pushed his attempt about a foot beyond the hole. Not to worry, tidy things up, take your medicine and get back on track. Surely? Alas that was not to be. Young rushed into his effort from 12 inches and managed to send it back from whence it came – and at double the distance. Now faced with two feet for double bogey, Young rushed into his putt again and left the CBS commentary team horrified when he proceeded to do exactly the same for the second time. “That is a sign of…….Oh my goodness,” exclaimed Dottie Pepper, halting her initial assessment to be stunned by what was unfolding before her. Young missed his first putt And also his third Before finally closing out on the 16th hole “Whoops,” exclaimed one of the team alongside her in the booth, while another simply said “Wow” as the scenario appeared to leave everyone squirming. Young finally took a moment, marked his ball and finally sunk the putt. However he went on to add further bogies at the 17th and 18th holes for a round of 79 and well beyond the cut mark, leaving him facing an early exit. While sympathy was in short supply for Young from the booth, fans were quick to empathise. “One of us,” one fan offered, perhaps echoing the thoughts of many when out on the greens of their local clubs. “Or. US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley, three-time Masters champion Phil Mickelson and former Open champion Cam Smith were also among those packing their bags early. At the other end of the leaderboard, Justin Rose set the halfway lead at eight-under-par and has Bryson DeChambeau breathing down his next just one shot adrift.
