Robert Noaker capped off a perfect Mustang Challenge weekend at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca after leading every on-track session on his way to a Race 2 victory on Sunday.
Noaker started the race on pole after setting the fastest racing lap in yesterday’s Race 1, opening up a steadily growing gap to TechSport’s Devin Anderson behind.
By the checkered flag, the reigning Dark Horse champion finished 3.269 seconds up on Anderson in his No. 13 Ford Mustang Dark Horse R, with Sandy Satullo putting a second Robert Noaker Racing car on the overall and DH class podium for the second time this weekend.
McCumbee McAleer Racing’s Marcos Vento was fourth on the road, fending off Dark Horse Legends class winner Alex Bachoura.
Bachoura and Zachary Lee leaped past class pole-sitter Alfonso Diaz in the first ten minutes of the race in a move that saw the trio go door-to-door on the main straight.
Once in the lead, Bachoura was able to increase his pace in clean air, taking his Spark Mustang to a DHL victory and climbing into the overall top five in the process.
Diaz was second in class with Stephen Vajda elevated to a DHL podium after a post-race time penalty for Tom Tait, who fell to fourth in class when the penalty was applied at the checkered flag.
Jim Farley was locked in a near full-race battle with Competition Motors teammate Tait, with the Blue Oval CEO eventually relinquishing his overall position following Turn 11 contact.
However, Farley maintained his position in class on the way to a second consecutive top ten finish in DH.
After a mid-race spin, Colin Harrison eventually brought his No. 21 TechSport Mustang down pit lane in the final ten minutes of the race with an unknown issue in a 50-minute contest that ran green from start to finish.
