Macklin Celebrini of the San Jose Sharks, Lane Hutson of the Montreal Canadiens and Dustin Wolf of the Calgary Flames were announced on Monday as the finalists for the Calder Trophy, awarded to the NHL’s rookie of the year, as voted by the Professional Hockey Writers Association.
Hutson, 21, had a historic season for Montreal. His 66 points broke Chris Chelios’ team record for rookie defensemsn, and he also led all first-year players in scoring. With 60 assists, the former Boston University standout tied Larry Murphy’s NHL record for a rookie blueliner.
