Lionsgate has unveiled the second trailer for its psychological thriller “Hurry Up Tomorrow” starring The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye), Jenna Ortega, Barry Keoghan, Gabby Barrett, and Charli D’Amelio.
Based on The Weeknd’s sixth studio album, the project was previously touted as being a sort-of reimagining of the 1990 film based on Stephen King’s novel “Misery”.
Tesfaye and Reza Fahim co-wrote the feature which follows an insomniac musician on the verge of a mental breakdown. He meets a stranger, a woman, and the pair go on an odyssey together that begins unravelling his mind.
Further plot specifics are under wraps. In a statement last month, Tesfaye said: “This experience was really introspective and cathartic for me. From writing to production and through post — I realized just how much of a catalyst this art form can be for conversations about our emotions, mental health, and vulnerabilities.”
The project has been directed and co-written by Trey Edwards Shults (“Krisha,” “It Comes at Night”) and is budgeted at over $20 million. The project was sitting in post-production for a year took some time to find a distributor before Lionsgate picked it up.
“Hurry Up Tomorrow” is set to release in cinemas on May 16th.
