Lewis-Skelly has now lifted the lid on the moments before he was notified of his place in the side. He recalled the incident, which had an unexpected twist, with his friend in a video with Declan Rice and Dan Burn for the England media channels. The teenager explained: “I was on the phone with my friend the day before the big announcement. “Then I got a call from a number so I was like, ‘Oh bro, I’ve got to call you back, let me take this call’. So I hung up with my friend and put on my good voice. “I was getting ready and then the person that speaks is, ‘we’ve got your food, it’s outside’. It’s Uber Eats for my mum.” Rice and Burn burst out laughing as Lewis-Skelly covered his face in embarrassment. Fortunately for the youngster, he was later called to tell him he had made the squad. Lewis-Skelly has already played for the Three Lions from under-16 to under-19 level already in his career. The 18-year-old could now make his debut against Albania at Wembley Stadium on Friday night, live on talkSPORT. As for the feeling of being called up, Lewis-Skelly added: “I was just over the moon, running around the house. It was a good moment for me and my family. “I was just so happy because it’s such a big step and a big achievement. I was just so proud of myself and so grateful that I’ve been given the opportunity.” Despite only making his Premier League debut in September, the defender has already featured 26 times for the Gunners this term. He has also scored once across those matches, finding the net in his side’s 5-1 win over Manchester City last month. Discussing how he has found the experience of being on international duty so far, Lewis-Skelly said: “It’s been incredible.
