Morcheeba, UNKLE and DJ Shadow have been announced for the 2025 edition of South Facing Festival.
The multi-day event at South London’s Crystal Palace Park has revealed that its line-up for August 14 will also include Jurassic 5’s Chali 2na, Zero 7 and DJ Cheeba. Tickets go on sale at 10am on April 4, and you will be able to get yours here.
It follows on from previous announcements that other days of South Facing will be headlined by Mogwai and Lankum on August 7, Big Smoke and Skepta on August 9, Basement Jaxx on August 22 and 23 and Nile Rodgers and Chic on August 24.
Morcheeba, the Kent electronic duo of Skye Edwards and Ross Godfrey, were influential figures in the ‘90s trip-hop and downtempo scene, with albums ‘Big Calm’ and ‘Who Can You Trust?’ defining their blend of atmospheric and electronic flavours. Their most recent album was ‘Blackest Blue’ in 2021, although they released the single ‘Call For Love’ in January to mark their 30th anniversary.
UNKLE, the project led by musician and producer James Lavelle, will bring their Rōnin Live show to South Facing, having toured the UK with it in 2024.
“With the Rōnin Tour, the UNKLE live experience is reimagined within the context of a club environment rather than a traditional live show,” Lavelle said last year. “This allows us to be creative and experimental in many different ways.”
“The Rōnin shows are layered, collaged and sampled to create a seamless UNKLE soundtrack experience, drawing influences from the past, present and future of UNKLE. The project started as a DJ-based performance and we aimed to push the limits of what we thought DJing was at the time, incorporating visual elements along with the music. We want people to dance, celebrate and have a great time.”
DJ Shadow, meanwhile, has been speaking out in recent months about the crisis currently facing touring musicians, saying the industry is close to “extinction”.
“Many of the venues I played this year are struggling financially,” he said. “I don’t think it’s an over exaggeration to say that the touring industry as we know it is one more global crisis away from extinction.”
