MJ Lenderman won’t tour in Wednesday anymore

MJ Lenderman has barely paused since releasing Manning Fireworks (our #2 album of 2024) last year; he’s resumed his ongoing tour and has lots more shows ahead. Amidst all that, he’s the subject of an in-depth new profile in GQ. One of the things it touches on is his break up with his Wednesday bandmate Karly Hartzman after six years together, and the band’s future in the wake of that. Lenderman says he’ll continue to record with Wednesday (and he appears on their new album, the follow-up to 2023’s Rat Saw God, which is still to be announced but expected later this year), but he won’t be joining them on future tours. His last show with the band was at Tokyo festival rockin’on sonic in January, and after it, he told GQ, “Oh, that was my last show in Wednesday,” adding, “The guy that’s replacing me? His name is Jake too.”

The profile also touches on Lenderman’s experiences contributing to Waxahatchee‘s fantastic 2024 album Tigers Blood, meeting Shquille O’Neal when he played on Jimmy Fallon (a photo of which has since gone viral), keeping his breakup with Hartzman secret from their bandmates at first, and more.
