Medicine Hat Tigers star Gavin McKenna notches seven points in win

There was no stopping Gavin McKenna on Saturday night.

The 17-year-old Medicine Hat Tigers star recorded a career-high seven points (three goals and four assists) as his team beat the Red Deer Rebels 7-3 in WHL action.

McKenna extended his point streak to 38 games, the longest in a single season in modern WHL history.

What’s more, he’s had two points or more in the past seven games.

Alexander Radulov’s 50-game run with the QMJHL’s Quebec Remparts in 2005-06 is the longest in the CHL in a single season since 2000.

McKenna, from Whitehorse, is projected to be the No. 1-overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

But before then, he hopes to capture a WHL title — and maybe more.

The Tigers are first in the WHL’s Eastern Conference, trying to hold off the Calgary Hitmen for the top seed in the playoffs with a week to go in the regular season. The two teams play in the regular-season finale on March 23 at the Saddledome.

McKenna is second in WHL scoring this season with 119 points (37 goals, 82 assists) in 54 games.

Oasiz Wiesblatt, McKenna’s teammate, had three goals and two assists in Saturday’s win.
