U.S. captain Auston Matthews skated on a line with Jake Guentzel and Jack Hughes during Monday’s practice in Montreal for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off.

Matthews, who also serves as captain for the Toronto Maple Leafs, was given the ‘C’ for the best-on-best tournament on Jan. 30.

Jack Eichel centred the top line between Kyle Connor and assistant captain Matthew Tkachuk. Eichel and Connor share the NHL lead in scoring among American players with 69 points each.

The Tkachuk brothers were split up as younger brother Brady was on the wing with J.T. Miller and Matt Boldy.

Vincent Trocheck was in the middle on the fourth line beside Brock Nelson with Dylan Larkin and Chris Kreider rotating.

Jaccob Slavin and Adam Fox linked up on the top defencemen pairing.

Zach Werenski joined assistant captain Charlie McAvoy and Noah Hanifin played with Brock Faber on the other two pairs.

Jake Sanderson, who was named as an injury replacement for Quinn Hughes on Sunday, was the extra defender.

The 4 Nations Face-Off begins Wednesday in Montreal. The U.S. plays its first game Thursday against Finland at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. Watch the entire tournament live on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
