Genesis factory driver Andre Lotterer is set to contest the Le Mans 24 Hours this year, as part of the South Korean brand’s Hypercar preparation program with IDEC Sport in LMP2.
The three-time Le Mans winner will race at La Sarthe as a stand in for Dani Juncadella, who has been signed up by IDEC to race alongside Jamie Chadwick and Mathys Jaubert in the European Le Mans Series, where he is replacing Logan Sargeant.
With Juncadella already committed for the full FIA WEC season in a TF Sport Corvette, he will give up his seat at IDEC for the 24 Hours. Lotterer, who along with Pipo Derani was confirmed as a Genesis Magma Racing Hypercar driver last year, joins for a one off in the wake of Sargeant’s unexpected decision to step back from racing.
“This opportunity was discussed from the beginning of our collaboration, but the priority was always the drivers from the ‘Trajectory’ program. Ultimately, Logan’s withdrawal gives me the chance to return to Le Mans and bring my experience to this young team,” said Lotterer.
“The car looks very competitive. I’ve already spoken with Mathys and Jamie, and we will form a strong trio. Thanks to Genesis Magma Racing and IDEC Sport for this opportunity. Racing at Le Mans is always special, and this experience will also help me stay sharp for the rest of the season.”
As for Juncadella, the newly confirmed ELMS program with IDEC and Genesis adds to his WEC LMGT3 gig with TF Sport. It gives Genesis the chance to evaluate his abilities behind the wheel of a prototype, at a time when it is looking to fill spaces in its driver line-up before the start of the 2026 season.
“I’m really happy to join IDEC Sport and Genesis Magma Racing! It’s an incredible opportunity to make my debut in the ELMS with such an experienced team,” Juncadella said.
“Although I’m currently racing in GT3, I already have experience in LMP2 from the 24 Hours of Daytona. I’m confident the team will help me settle in quickly. My single-seater background also gives me useful references to handle the aerodynamics.
“I want to thank the entire team for this trust. I’m looking forward to starting work with them, and that starts this week!”
Cyril Abiteboul, president of Hyundai Motorsport, said of the addition: “Dani is a perfect fit for our ‘Trajectory’ program, which aims to recruit talented drivers who haven’t yet had the opportunity to race in Hypercar. He complements Mathys and Jamie perfectly, giving us a very balanced team.”
Lotterer will have a test session with IDEC/Genesis Magma Racing ahead of Le Mans. The ELMS season, meanwhile, begins on April 6 in Barcelona.
