By bringing the people of Mexico together, it saw them set a new world record across the country. 32 squares across the country simultaneously saw people gathered as organised by president Claudia Sheinbaum. A host of famous boxing faces were in attendance including Julio Cesar Chavez, Roberto Duran, Isaac Cruz and Marco Antonio Barerra. De La Hoya himself produced a video from the event, where he was seen beaming with the crowd cheering in the background. And fans were stunned by the spectacle with one writing: “Wow look at that, it’s incredible.” Another agreed: “These events are exactly what is good about the sport.” It was a history-making day for the country and a real sign that the sport remains a significant interest. And the president issued a statement as the event landed a huge success, shattering the world record for the largest National Boxing Class. She said: “We are gathered from this emblematic setting, connected to all the states of the Republic, showing the world that Mexico is a country of unity, of solidarity, but especially a country of peace and prosperity. GettyThe event was historic, record-breaking and a credit to Mexico[/caption] “This class is a message to all of Mexico and the world. In Mexico, we build peace and prosperity and always choose to be a free, independent, and sovereign country. “We Mexicans have a brave, free, and just spirit; we are a supportive and fraternal people; we never leave anyone behind. “Young Mexicans say: no to violence, no to addictions. The people of Mexico say: no to racism, no to classism, no to sexism. “The people of Mexico say: yes, to education, yes to sports, yes to peace, yes to love.” De La Hoya has been extremely busy since concluding his stellar boxing career, which saw him reign as a world champion in six weight classes. ‘Golden Boy’ is now a boxing promoter, having steered the career of Ryan Garcia and Canelo Alvarez during his time on the other side of the ropes. An imminent threat to the stalwart promoters is coming in soon, as Dana White prepares to venture into the sport with his new TKO boxing league. And De La Hoya has insisted he intends to continue to develop his reputation and focus on his own shows. “So what I’m going to do is stay in my lane and do what I do for Golden Boy and with DAZN and give the fight fans the best fights that can possibly be made, just the way we’ve been doing for years,” he said. “You know working with Turki, Riyadh Season, it’s an honour for me to do that, but I have my business that I’m going to take care of as well. “And nobody’s going to touch me there because we are the best developers in the fight game, and we take our fighters to championship levels, to superstardom like the way we did with Canelo [Alvarez] and Ryan Garcia. “The competition in boxing is really good, it’s positive, it’s great, but I’m going to continue doing what I do because boxing is what I love, boxing is what it’s what made me, what helped me get here, and I’m never leaving.” Follow talkBOXING on social media talkBOXING is now on Twitter and Facebook.
