Let's Be Honest, Watching ‘Conclave’ Because Pope Francis Passed Is Ghoulish  — This Is the Right Movie To Cue Up Instead

With the passing of Pope Francis, films about popes and the Catholic Church are some of the best refuges to try and make sense of what's going on. Conclave may be an obvious choice now, but, as good and thought-provoking as it is, it's still a thriller, and not really the best pick to understand who Francis was and his importance and impact on the Church. Instead, our pick is The Two Popes, a 2019 Oscar-nominated film that puts Francis and his predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, in the spotlight, both played superbly by Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins, respectively.
