Legacy Motor Club granted restraining order against Rick Ware Racing

Legacy Motor Club has been granted a temporary restraining order against Rick Ware Racing as the organization pursues legal action over the sale of a charter. The restraining order prevents RWR from selling, leasing, or taking any other action regarding the charter question for 10 days or until an agreement is reached between the two sides.

The order issued Wednesday states: “This Order is entered with the consent of Defendant Rick Ware Racing LLC and without prejudice to its right to oppose and contest each of Plaintiff’s allegations, claims, and requests for relief in this action.”

Legacy Motor Club had requested a temporary restraining order in its lawsuit. In doing so, the organization wanted to ensure the “status quo” was adhered to as the legal process played out.

Legacy filed a lawsuit on April 1, alleging Ware had backed out of a signed deal to sell one of his charters for the 2026 season. However, Ware responded that the lawsuit “distorts the actual facts.” Although the organization has not provided its version of events, and the details in the lawsuit are redacted, it is understood that Ware signed a contract believed to be for the 2027 season but was changed afterward by Legacy Motor Club to make it for 2026.

The purchase of an additional charter would allow Legacy Motor Club to expand to three entries in the NASCAR Cup Series. Ware has two charters — one used for Cody Ware and the No. 51 team and one currently leased to RFK Racing.
