Kevin Spacey has appeared on a Netflix-related promo for the first time since leaving the show House Of Cards.

The Oscar-winner appeared as his character from the series, Frank Underwood, for a clip promoting comedian and podcaster Tim Dillion’s stand-up special, I’m Your Mother. In the clip, Dillon comes into his podcast studio only to find Underwood sitting at his desk.

“You podcasters think you’ve inherited the kingdom,” the character says. “Whispering in ears, swaying elections, spinning the truth like it was cotton candy when in fact you’re nothing but a bunch of clowns juggling boner pills and hair tonic.”

After a back and forth about whether the character is dead or not, Underwood tries to blackmail Dillon into endorsing something on his podcast by threatening to expose his Doordash orders. The comedian scoffs: “I’m on the internet; we don’t have blackmail we have content. We’re all demons from hell.”

“There is no limit to your duplicity, to your pandering, to your shameless and desperate desire to cling to relevance,” Underwood says. “You are… You are my kind of bastard. You have my endorsement, Mr. Dillon.”

He asks what Dillon’s comedy special is on, and when the comedian says Netflix, Underwood concludes: “You foul, lonesome, evil little cockroach. But I love it.” He then knocks the desk he is sitting at in the same rhythm as Netflix’s “Tudum” theme. It’s rumoured that the signature sound was based on the character knocking his fist on a desk at the end of a House Of Cards episode, although Netflix itself insists it is an original composition.

The actor was the star of David Fincher’s remake of the UK political series House Of Cards, Netflix’s first original show, from 2013-17. Winning a slew of awards, the series saw him play Frank Underwood, a ruthless politician who would stop at nothing to get what he wanted.

Kevin Spacey was accused of sexual assault by Anthony Rapp in 2017, with a number of other accusers then coming forward in the next few years. In 2022, a jury in New York found that Spacey wasn’t liable for battery in relation to Rapp’s accusations, and last year, a court in the UK found him not guilty of nine counts of alleged sexual assault.

The initial allegations meant Netflix terminated its relationship with the actor, meaning Spacey was not involved in the sixth and final season released in 2018. He had been the lead in all previous seasons from 2013-17.

In February, the former star dismissed claims made by L.A. Confidential co-star Guy Pearce that the actor “targeted him”, releasing a response video that said: “Grow up, you are not a victim”.
