The Jurassic World franchise has been messing with dino DNA to create some brand new hybrid nightmares in recent years, with Jurassic World unleashing the Indominus Rex and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom introducing the Indoraptor. This summer’s Jurassic World Rebirth will also feature a brand new dino terror the world has never seen before.
The official name of Rebirth‘s new dinosaur? Distortus Rex aka D-Rex.
Director Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Godzilla) tells Empire this week, “It’s kind of like if the T-Rex was designed by H.R. Giger, and then that whole thing had sex with a Rancor. It’s a design that I was really happy with. I’d like to buy the toy of it when it comes out.”
We’ve only gotten brief glimpses of the six-limbed D-Rex in the film’s teasers and trailers thus far, and we may have to wait until July 2, 2025 for the full reveal on the big screen.
Gareth Edwards directs the franchise’s seventh installment from a script by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp, based on characters created by Michael Crichton.
The idea behind Jurassic World Rebirth is to tap back into the vibes of the original Jurassic Park, whisking us off to an island inhabited by dinosaurs far too dangerous for the parks.
In the new movie, “The planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.”
Standing in the way of the film’s human characters? You guessed it. The D-Rex.
