Several new photos and art from “Jurassic World Rebirth” have emerged via an Empire in feature pieces previewing the film, including a sketch of the Rancor-esque new dinosaur glimpsed in the trailers – Distortus Rex.
The film unfolds on a new island. If Isla Nublar is the public display space, and Isla Sorna/Site B the manufacturing floor, this takes place on an island that was essentially the research & development department where initial experiments were carried out to make dinosaurs exist.
What’s left is the dinosaurs that ‘went wrong’, dangerous prototypes that didn’t quite work right but have somehow survived including Distortus Rex among others.
Jonathan Bailey, who plays paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis in the film, says the film is really aiming to celebrate Steven Spielberg’s original movie:
“It really does feel that it’s welcoming people to really celebrate the original film. It has that wonder and awe, while not being scared to re-inject the thrill and the fear.”
Co-star Scarlett Johansson adds: “It has a lot of good jump-scares, and the stakes are high.” Screenwriter David Koepp says one thing this will do that the previous World trilogy shied away from is a return to jungle surroundings:
” We wanted to recapture the idea that we are in the dinosaurs’ environment. The last few movies were exploring the idea of, ‘Hey, what would it be like if they were in our environment?’ They did that very well, and now we wanted to explore how it felt to go back to theirs.”
That meant filming in Thailand to shoot in the middle of the jungle, Bailey saying “the fear and adrenaline was as real as it could be” on screen as really dangerous snakes and other creatures were around them during the shoot.
The Gareth Edwards-directed “Jurassic World: Rebirth” is set to hit cinemas on July 2nd.

Gareth Edwards relished making dinosaur mayhem with Steven Spielberg on #JurassicWorldRebirth.
“The only thing I can compare it to is [showing] George Lucas around the set of Star Wars,” he tells Empire – which he did on Rogue One.
