Liverpool are in the market to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will leave Arne Slot’s side when his contract expires at the end of the season and is expected to join Real Madrid on a free transfer. Frimpong, meanwhile, has established himself as one of the best right-sided defenders in Europe with his impressive performances for Leverkusen over the past three seasons. The 24-year-old, who has five goals and 12 assists this season, played an integral role in Leverkusen’s domestic league and cup success last term. Frimpong is also available for a fixed fee due to the €35 million (£29.6m) release clause in his deal with Leverkusen. The right-back spent just 16 months with the Scottish club before he was sold to Leverkusen for £11.5m in January 2021. Speaking to Rising Ballers earlier this season, Frimpong revealed that before joining City’s academy, his first choice was to make the move to Liverpool. ‘There were scouts there like Liverpool, Bolton, City, a lot more,’ Frimpong said. ‘But I chose Liverpool first. I was going to sign for them but back then, driving wasn’t a thing. My family wasn’t driving and it was far. ‘Obviously, Man City was local, so then I tried Man City next. It made more sense.
