Fourteen-year-old Jenson Sofronas has joined Copeland Motorsports’ program for the upcoming Toyota GR Cup North America season.
Jenson, the son of GMG Racing team owner/driver James Sofronas, will make his full season debut in the single-make series after contesting the races at Virginia International Raceway and Indianapolis Motor Speedway last yer under the GMG banner.
“Jenson is young, but a driver that could reap major benefits from our experience, data, video, and driver coaching efforts,” said team owner Dean Copeland.
“Jenson has a little experience under his belt in the GR Cup North America series, but we will look to help mold him into a better driver, and future champion of the sport.”
Sofronas said: “My goals are to achieve the best results possible but also to learn and have constant progression throughout the season by improving better each race weekend.
“I have a ton to learn, and while I would love to be fighting for race wins, I just want to make sure that I am comfortable racing wheel-to-wheel and battling with some of the best GR Cup teams and drivers in the country.”
The rising American star joins the seven-car Copeland effort that also includes the likes of Jaxon Bell, son of Townsend Bell, Beltre Curtis, John Dean, Ford Koch, John Lennon and PT Autosport-backed driver Zach Holingshead.
The season kicks off next weekend at Sonoma Raceway.
