A first-round exit will not affect Jared Bednar’s status as head coach of the Colorado Avalanche.

General manager Chris MacFarland said Tuesday he is “100 per cent” committed to Bednar returning next season.

The Avalanche season ended with a seven-game loss to the Dallas Stars on Saturday as ex-Colorado forward Mikko Rantanen recorded a third-period hat trick in a comeback victory.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman spoke about Bednar’s status in the most recent episode of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast.

“The (Avalanche) believe Bednar’s a very good coach and they don’t believe that there are many people available that are better coaches than Bednar and are right,” he said.

Bednar, 53, has led the Avalanche since the 2016-17 season, winning the 2022 Stanley Cup in the process.

Colorado has made the playoffs in eight straight seasons, but advanced past the second round just once.

In 700 regular-season games, Bednar holds a 390-246-64 record.
