Japanese Breakfast share “Mega Circuit,” played surprise duo show at Night Club 101

Japanese Breakfast‘s anticipated new album For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women) arrives next month, and they’ve given us a second early taste with “Mega Circuit.” “‘Mega Circuit’ was one of the first songs I wrote, intent on making a creepier, more guitar driven record,” Michelle Zauner says. “The song is sort of an examination of contemporary masculinity, and explores a conflicted desire to embrace a generation that in the absence of positive role models has found refuge in violence and bigotry. We had the legendary Jim Keltner—who’s played on everything from ‘These Days,’ to ‘Here You Come Again’ to ‘Dream Weaver’—come in and play the fiercest shuffle you’ve ever heard.” Watch the video, which Michelle made with frequent collaborator Adam Kolodny, below.

Ahead of their tour, which begins in April after Coachella, Michelle and her bandmate and husband Peter Bradley did a surprise acoustic duo set at NYC’s Night Club 101 on Wednesday night (2/12). They were the secret headliner for a benefit to fund a new feature film from Kolodny and Ryan Schnackenberg that the venue hosted, which also featured Low Healer, solo sets from Katy Kirby and Oceanator, and DJ sets from Cassandra Jenkins and more. Japanese Breakfast’s set included the live debut of “Here is Someone” and “Little Girl,” their recent single “Orlando in Love,” a couple of Little Big League songs, and more. See the setlist and watch a video clip below.

Japanese Breakfast also recently added a few new shows to their tour, including a fourth NYC date at Brooklyn Paramount on May 12. See updated dates below.
