Janelle Monae, the Roots and Jacob Collier will headline the 71st edition of the Newport Jazz Festival.


Janelle Monae, the Roots and Jacob Collier will headline the 71st edition of the Newport Jazz Festival, which will be held Aug. 1-3 at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, R.I. The event takes place the weekend after the Newport Folk Festival on the same grounds.
Also set to appear on the Jazz bill, which was booked in tandem with artistic director Christian McBride, are RAYE, Jorja Smith, Esperanza Spalding, the Yussef Dayes Experience. Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Thee Sacred Souls, De La Soul, SOFI TUKKER, Cymande, Kokoroko, the trio of Louis Cato, John Scofield and Marcus Miller, Knower, Kenny Garrett and Bela Fleck’s trio with Edmar Castaneda and Antonio Sanchez.
