James Gunn Talks About His New Take On the Relationship Dynamic Between Clark Kent and Lois Lane in SUPERMAN
Director James Gunn is making the rounds promoting his new Superman movie, which is set to be one of the summer’s biggest blockbusters. He has teased the look and personality of the title character, portrayed by actor David Corenswet, as well as his nemesis, played by Nicholas Hoult. We have seen shots of leading lady Rachel Brosnahan in the role of Lois Lane, but Gunn is leaving much of the story and its nuances for audiences to enjoy when they view the film, and I appreciate that. One aspect of the story the director was willing to tease a bit in a recent interview with ABCNews was some of the dynamic between Lois and Clark. “He’s in love with her,” Gunn said. “She’s the one that needs the convincing in the relationship. It’s not him. You really see where he needs her in his life.”Corenswet said that in addition to the action and thrills, the movie also has a Preston Sturges quality to it with “longing romance and witty comedy.” Fitting for their reporter characters, “His Girl Friday” was also a big reference with “the rhythm, the patter and the feeling of two people in love who really are an equal match for the other.”I am really looking forward to seeing James Gunn’s Superman. He has a pretty great track record for making superhero movies that are really fun, with a lot of heart, and this looks like it will live up to the hype.Superman hits theatres on July 11, 2025.
