Jake Paul to fight son of Hall of Famer and former Canelo Alvarez rival as date confirmed

Jake Paul will step in the ring with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in his next fight, with the bout announced for this summer. Paul and Chavez Jr will meet in a stunning clash this summer Now he will take on Chavez Jr, son of boxing legend and Hall of Famer Julio Cesar Chavez this summer. The fight will take place on June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Canada. It will also see cruiserweight stars Zurdo Ramirez and Yuriel Dorticos meet in a mouth watering chief support bout. The bout will land in the cruiserweight division, with Paul to shed weight from his win over Tyson at heavyweight. Chavez Jr is a former world champion, winning the WBC middleweight title in 2011. He kept the belt before losing in September 2012 to Sergio Martinez. The ex-divisional king fought Canelo Alvarez and was badly beaten, which spelled an end to his days at the top level. His last appearance against a world-level fighter came in 2019, where he was forced to quit on the stool against Daniel Jacobs. The Mexican’s last outing came on the undercard of Paul’s clash with Mike Perry last year. He fought Uriah Hall and outpointed him in dominant fashion, and does have natural talent as a boxer. And WBA president Gilberto Mendoza suggested it could be for a version of their world title. But at the time, Paul rejected the approach insisting he wanted something bigger and better. But it appears he has now made a U-turn and elected to accept the clash. For the ‘Problem Child’, he was in talks to face Alvarez early this year but the bout collapsed. The boxing superstar decided to pursue a four-fight deal with Turki Alalshikh, which includes a mega-fight with Terence Crawford in September. It is a huge opportunity for the social media star, who is still looking to prove his legitimate worth in the sport. In his only step-up against a renowned boxer, Paul lost to Tommy Fury in 2023. And Chavez Jr previously stated he would retire and turn his back on the sport if Paul secures a famous victory. “I can only talk about myself, not about other people, I am not here to criticise anyone,” he said back in 2021. “I talk by analysing boxing. I hope I can get a few million with Jake Paul. If he beats me, I’ll retire, I don’t get paid. “I don’t want money if I don’t beat him. Retirement – not interested in his money if I do not win. “People want me to beat him, [Jake Paul] is strong and he knows how to organise the fights well at his weight, it would be a matter of reaching an agreement.  “[The Pauls] generate a lot of expectations and money, a match with me would be good. “They haven’t learned how to fight well and I can take advantage of that.
