“It Was an Incredibly Painful and Difficult Situation”: Christopher Landon Explains His ‘Scream 7’ Exit

Christopher Landon doesn't harbor ill-will towards Spyglass Media Group or any of the other folks involved with Scream 7. The Happy Death Day franchise director was on deck to helm the seventh installment of the beloved slasher franchise after Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett passed over the reins following Scream and Scream VI. Shortly after Landon’s position was announced, the production went off the rails, with the firing of Melissa Barrera following a pro-Palestinian social media post which we recently learned sparked Jenna Ortega’s exit. Then, just a little over one month later, Landon stepped down from the project, leaving a big question mark over its future. Eventually, universe creator and frequent scribe, Kevin Williamson, was brought on as director, with fan favorites such as Neve Campbell, Matthew Lillard, Courteney Cox and more set to return.
