Chelsea could welcome back a number of key players when they take on Leicester City at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

The Blues were in midweek action on Thursday, beating Copenhagen in the first leg of their last 16 clash ahead of next week’s return leg in west London.

Enzo Maresca named a strong side that included Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer in Europe for the first time this season but there was concern for Malo Gusto after the right-back picked up an injury in the opening minutes.

Maresca was hopeful the Frenchman would be available for the weekend but may opt not to risk starting him three days later.

Chelsea have been hit hardest by injuries at the back with Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile sidelined this year.

The Frenchman made his return midweek however, playing the first 45 minutes before being replaced at the break.

Fofana was an unused substitute against Southampton last time out in the league and is in line to return to the side today.

Trevoh Chalobah, who has not featured since being forced off last month against Aston Villa, is also back, playing the full 90 against Copenhagen.

There was also good news on Romeo Lavia this week. The Belgian has not played since being forced off in the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth in January and while he was initially not expected to return until April, the midfielder is now back in training.

The Blues remain slightly short in attack with Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke sidelined.

The striker has not featured since the 2-1 win over West Ham, leaving his side without a recognised striker with Marc Guiu also injured in the same match.

How Chelsea could line up this afternoon.

But Jackson is expected to be available for the game against Tottenham on 3 April.

Noni Madueke is looking at a similar return timeline having also suffered a hamstring injury that has ruled him out of the last three games.

In Jackson’s absence, Pedro Neto is expected to continue in a centre forward role.

After a run of just one win in five games that saw them slip out of the top four and crash out of the FA Cup, the Blues got back on track with a comfortable win over Southampton last time out in the league.

The visit of another side scrapping for survival in Leicester offers the chance to build further momentum ahead of a showdown with Arsenal in their final game before the March international break.

Predicted Chelsea XI to face Leicester

Jorgenson, James, Fofana, Colwill, Cucurella, Fernandez, Caicedo, Sancho, Palmer, Nkunku, Neto
